Licensing in North America

Licensing requirements for the Green Dot trademark in North America are as follows.

  • It is not mandatory to the use the trademark
  • If you are not using the Green Dot on packaging for products to be sold in North America, you do not need to get a license.
  • If you use, intend to use or import products that carry the Green Dot on the packaging sold in North America, you need to apply for a license OR you must discontinue use of the mark.

The cost of a license for calendar year 2012 is $1250 (U.S.).

If you wish to or are currently using the Green Dot on packaging destined for the North American market, you will be asked to sign a
Green Dot User Agreement.” The Agreement, once accepted by Green Dot North America™, serves as a license and gives you the right to use the trademark as it was intended and for the uses stipulated by the agreement. The Agreement requires that the trademark is not used in a way that implies any additional meaning, other than showing that the trademark represents the payment of a license fee to the licensor.

The agreement runs continuously for each calendar year and is automatically renewed. If you stop using the mark, the agreement will terminate upon written notification to Green Dot North America™.
